Yay for Summer!

Not only did summer officially start - but if finally stopped raining (torrential downpours!) every day... we are putting the plans for the ARK back into the file cabinet.

Even though my kids are long out of school, I still tend to get excited about the term "Summer Vacation". By the way, f you are headed off to the beach or some other relaxation, my books make terrific summer reads (& they will help to "transport" you away even if you are sitting in your own living room.

My recently released novel, Final Sin, is really getting some great reviews and impressive sales. The following graphic is from Booklert - a falling line is considered good since it means your ranking is better (like golf, the lower the number the better) - it is considered especially significant if the numbers remain consistently low...

I've got a few events planned over the summer months & there is more to come! You can always keep up with my latest virtual and in-person appearances at BookTour.com. There is a whole wealth of info on BookTour about me, my books and how YOU can request me at your venue.

Here are some of the summer events coming up:

Late this summer my next novel will be released from Vanilla Heart

She moved to New York City, found a job, worked hard, scrimped and saved to send what little she could manage back home to Louisiana to her parents. ~ An errand for her boss - a chance encounter with a crew of bank robbers - a kind man who tried to help her and deserved her courageous help in return...
But he wasn't the man she thought he was...no, he was so very much more!
"

page 69 theory - Final Sin

There is a theory that if you pick up a book and turn to page 69, you will know if the book is interesting or not

so we are putting it to the test...

~~~~~~
p 69
Long ago after his ex-wife's damning condemnation of him as a lover, Jake had made it a point to learn how to satisfy his partner before meeting his own needs. Too embarrassed to speak to friends about his failure as a husband and a lover, Jake secretly read a bunch of erotic romances and then tried the techniques one by one. That was why he originally sought to satisfy Julie in front of the mirror. The fire in her eyes mesmerized him and the need to see that fire over and over again became singularly important.
She rested her head on his shoulder and they fell asleep together. During the night, Jake woke her by planting delicate kisses along her spine. He watched as the flame kindled in her eyes and they made love again. Afterwards, when they held each other closely, they could hear the combined beating of their hearts as if it were a well-rehearsed melody lulling them once again to sleep.
And when they made love yet again in the morning light, Jake realized that his thirst for her seemed unquenchable.
*****
Jake was buttoning his pants as he came into the kitchen. Julie had her back to him and didn’t hear his barefooted approach. He found it hard to accept that someone could be so beautiful, but she was.
“Hi.” He nuzzled her neck and surprised her. Jake slipped his hand inside her terry robe and gently caressed a breast. “I wish I didn’t have to go to work.”
Julie chuckled and turned in his arms. Her robe fell open. “But you do… and I have to go to work later as well.” She pressed her breasts against his showerdamp and hair-roughened chest. “But, oh, you are making it seem so tempting.”
Jake inhaled deeply. “Keep doing that and it will be your fault if I go in late. Or if I have the energy to go in at all.” It amazed him, it hadn’t been that long since he had been with a woman and yet his desire for Julie had yet to be assuaged. He bent to suckle a breast.
“Your coffee is going to get cold.” Julie was already breathless.
She had come into the kitchen to make him coffee and toast while he showered. He still had to stop at his place for a change of clothes before going into work. Neither of them had expected to want each other again so soon.
“You are anything but cold, my love. And you are much more desirable than a cup of coffee right now.” He drew a nipple deeply between his lips while he gently kneaded her other breast with his palm.
Author Chelle Cordero and Vanilla Heart Publishing donated one-dollar per book sold during the launch week of Cordero’s latest novel, mystery thriller Final Sin, to the Stony Point Ambulance Corps Youth Squad. Chelle presented the check to members and advisors of the Youth Squad at the Stony Point Ambulance Corps building on Friday, June 19, 2009. The donation totaled $120.00 and will be used towards training supplies and activites.
Members of the Youth Squad, ages 14 to 18, receive training in emergency response and emergency medical skills. In addition to helping to maintain ambulance readiness and other community services several members (age 15 and up) are proficient in BLS-CPR and Advanced First Aid and respond as part of an ambulance crew when 911 is called.
Final Sin is Chelle Cordero’s fifth novel and is a murder mystery set in New York’s lower Hudson Valley; the main female character is a Paramedic. The book has been praised for its accurate depiction of emergency services.
FREE Chelle Cordero First Chapter ChapBook (you can download that now for FREE http://tr.im/hv3I).
Here are the names of the books:
A: Bartlett's Rule
B: Forgotten
C: Within the Law
D: Courage of the Heart
E: Final Sin
Here are the excerpts:
1. ***** helped her while she fumbled into a night shirt and crawled under the blankets. Then he went to his side of the bed and stripped, leaving his clothing on the floor. He got under the covers and pulled her body up against his, he kissed her on the top of her head and whispered "G'night." Before he reached to turn out his night table lamp, he stopped to watch her sleeping in their bed…another memory for him to store.
2. There was no way he was a hero, he thought. He laughed and shook his head. But he didn’t argue. So long as he could wrap himself in the blanket, he was willing to cooperate. She helped him to his feet. He wound up taking a ride in the back on one of the other police cruisers, the trooper behind the wheel was nice enough to turn the heat on high. He borrowed the Nextel on his ride in and called ***** to ask her to bring him dry clothes and pick him up at the hospital. He assured her he was fine.
3. ***** injected epinephrine and sodium bicarb twice in an effort to restart her heart, but they couldn’t get her back. She had lost too much blood and had suffered too many traumas. It was almost as if she was surrendering to the peaceful cloak of death. It was a frustrating twenty-five minutes while the crew worked hard to save the young woman’s life.
4. She watched incredulously as he pulled a pair of jeans on. "I'm sorry…I…" Suddenly ***** felt angry. “If you thought that I thought it was going to be some kind of commitment, you don't need to worry. I got carried away…don't worry, it won't happen again." She stood taking the bed sheet with her to cover herself. "If you don't mind giving me some privacy, I'll get dressed."
5. He silently counted to ten before answering. "You will stay out of my personal life. And don't threaten me about my son." He felt the bile rising in his throat. "And don't you dare ever tell my boy that I didn't want him. Consider yourself damn lucky that I didn't tell him the truth about how you slept around with everyone and then lied about the paternity."
6. “Come on, I know this evening was all a show to keep me happy so your company can buy the magazine.” ***** knew that this purchase would benefit the new publisher even more than it would him so long as he remained on board. “It would make me very happy to know a little bit more about the woman *****.”
7. He called and left a message on his office voice mail. A woman’s voice greeted him in a recorded message. Somehow he recognized that it was *****’s voice. He remembered her voice, but how could that be when he couldn’t remember anything else? ***** scribbled the hotel and room number for him on a paper napkin so he could leave it in the message. He finished his message and kept the phone to his ear through the rest of the recorded options. Wondering if his message sounded urgent enough, he thought about re-recording his message and then decided to let it stay as it was. He hung up the phone.
8. “That’s going to be it for me, I’ve got an early morning.” He removed his hand from her wrist and watched as she pulled her slender hand away, noting the bright red of her nails. He remembered seeing red nails like that before. It was the same red as the cherry that topped the ice cream sundae you took your girl out for on a hot summer night. It was the same red as the Ruby stone that sat in a high school ring.
9. “You know hon, some relationships make it and some don’t. Every relationship has baggage of some kind. People grow, sometimes they grow apart.” She leaned on her desk and smiled kindly for her friend. “But I’m the kind of romantic that believes most love affairs do work out. And I really do see love in his eyes when he looks at you. That’s certainly something none of us would have expected from the old *****. You really have brought out the best in him.”
10. They sent ***** back to New York ahead of him. She hadn’t even said good-bye. After a short interview with a government agent, she was provided with a ticket home and a ride to the Las Vegas airport. ***** never got the opportunity to speak with her after their rescue. As far as he knew, she never asked to see him. She was already on her way back to New York when he found out that she was gone.
EMS Tales
Paramedics Julie and Matt encounter several different types of emergency calls in Final Sin - it is very real life that one never knows what kind of situation they might be dispatched to. Even when your dispatcher includes information about your call, it doesn't always match what you find.
In the excerpt from Final Sin posted on May 25, Julie and her partner Matt are dispatched to a possible heart problem. What they find instead is a woman who wants them to use their defibrillator on her car battery because her car won't start! (By the way, this is a true story borrowed from an EMT that we know)
To complicate matters, the woman believes that she has been poisoned by her beloved cat!
No matter what the call, EMS professionals know that any crisis, real or imagined, is of tantamount importance to the patient - and they are all trained to provide high standards of care. Still, there are some calls you can't help but chuckle about afterwards -
Here are some TRUE stories that have been overheard in conversations between Julie, Matt and scores of EMS professionals:
The dispatch information was "a woman complaining of severe stomach pains" = about half an hour later the EMT called dispatch to let them know that she delivered an "8 1/2 lb male stomach ache".
The Paramedic was trying to get the female's health history when she was told the woman was pregnant with Elvis Presley's baby - the year was 2004.
The crew was dispatched to the scene of a tractor trailer accident. When they went to apply MAST trousers (anti-shock garment) and removed the driver's jeans, he was wearing very dainty and frilly pink panties... It seems a husband came home early and the man left in a hurry!
The call was for a man "complaining of pressure in his chest" - when the crew arrived, they found the man's two grown sons sitting on his chest because he had gotten angry with his wife over some shopping bills.
If you are an EMS professional - share your humorous stories in the comment section (...just please remember HIPPA when you do):
