Listen to a Great Story —

I love to curl up with a good book, but… sometimes you don’t have the time to SIT and read. Having a great tale told to you is a fantastic option, you can drive to work and listen to one of your favorite authors’ books, play it while you’re cooking dinner, close your eyes for a bit and rest, and NEVER miss out. These are a few of MY reasons for enjoying a great audio rendition of a good story. But there’s more, the visually impaired have another option for enjoying a good book especially if large print is either not available or not enough of an aid; this was actually a very special reason to me as a very dear relative of mine was finally able to enjoy my books. And there are some people who simply don’t always feel like reading even though they don’t mind a great story.

With the cooperative effort of an author and a voice-actor, great stories can be heard.

Alright we know what an author does, she/he pens a great story. A voice-actor uses the words the author has written to mesmerize us with her/his voice. I was very fortunate that my wonderful publisher auditioned voice actors with such great diligence and turned several of my books into listening pleasures.

In addition to print and e-books, you, my dear readers, can also listen to:

The Many Faces of Chelle Cordero narrated by: Wendy Tremont King
Within the Law narrated by: Barry Newman
A Chaunce of Riches narrated by: Barry Newman
Karma Visited narrated by: Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard
Bartlett's Rule narrated by: Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard
Hostage Heart narrated by: Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard
Hyphema narrated by: Tim Danko
Courage of the Heart narrated by: Raquel Gliss

The Inspiration Behind Hostage Heart

In 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated areas of the Gulf Coast. There were more than 1800 fatalities from Katrina alone and the majority of New Orleans was underwater when the levees broke. It was a total nightmare as horror scenes of destruction and tales of families torn apart were broadcast over all of the news channels.

Many viewers felt helpless as we watched and prayed for all of the victims. Collections of money and resources were started to try to help in the recovery. So many emergency responders went to the devastation and worked around the clock rescuing survivors, digging victims out of the flooded rubble, and eventually helping to rebuild. The Army Corps of Engineers worked on restoring the levees.

My husband was a part of a federal medical team, his team spent tours of three weeks in the various areas — he went twice to the New Orleans area and environs to provide medical assistance. When he finally came home to stay he told us about the wonderful people he met, people whose spirits should have been trampled, but instead they cared about each other, they were looking forward to rebuilding, and they even brought vats of Louisiana home cooking as a thank you to the folks who were bandaging and tending to their medical needs.

The spirit of the people in Louisiana was both admirable and amazing. Those stories remained with me and grew into the heroine's sweet mother and father. And of course being a New Yorker myself I threw the streets of the city into the mix... added a crime, a sexy stranger and Hostage Heart was born. I had a lot of fun studying the contrast of New York-ese and the Cajun dialect. Hostage Heart begins in New York and travels to Baton Rouge and Little Rock, Arkansas. (I love researching new destinations for my stories!)
Life was hard after the hurricanes swept through, destroying her parents' home and livelihood...Deanna did the only thing she could do. She moved to New York City, found a job, worked hard, scrimped and saved to send what little she could manage back home to Louisiana to her parents.

An errand for her boss - a chance encounter with a crew of bank robbers - a kind man who tried to help her and deserved her courageous help in return...

But he wasn't the man she thought he was...no, he was so very much more!

Mamere called it vibrations - Weekend Writing Warriors / #8sunday / 03/15/15

Hi! Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warrior round. Every week writers post 8 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we "hop" around and leave comments on each other's snippets. Whether our work is already published or in progress, the helpful comments help us become stronger writers on our next WIP. We welcome EVERYONE's comments.

My entry this week is from Hostage Heart, a romantic suspense involving a young lady from Louisiana whose family was affected by the devastation from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Ryan and Deanna have kept up the pretense that she is (literally) his property in order to keep the rest of his crew away from her. Kidnapper aside, Deanna feels safe with Ryan and she's begun to worry what will happen to him if the robbers are caught. [note: "mamere" is what Deanna called her elderly  Cajun grandmother who died during the hurricanes and flooding in Louisiana]

...and now the eight:

“You’re nothing like those other men, why are you even involved with them?” Deanna knew that his kindness to her was more than just an act. “You are different, you act like them, but you aren’t. Who are you?”
Her mamere used to call it vibrations and Deanna got very different vibrations from Ryan than from his cohorts.
He stared at her in silence, finally he looked away. “The less you know about me, the better off you are. Don’t ask questions.”

My entry this week is from Hostage Heart, a romantic suspense involving a young lady from Louisiana whose family was affected by the devastation from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The mysterious kidnapper returns to the cabin to find his crew tormenting Deanna and he angrily exclaims that she belongs to him and he is not sharing in order to protect her. They are back in the room together. He demands they keep up the PRETENSE and then starts undressing to get into the bed where Deanna already is. Uh-oh! (creative editing used to make this fit)

...and now the eight:

Why are you?

Because we sleep together. Just before he pulled off his boxer shorts, he paused, “youre welcome to watch, he chuckled when she quickly turned away.

He climbed into bed and sighed, I am not going to hurt you.

It took her a few minutes to muster the courage to ask his name.

Its Ryan, just Ryan.

Why are you doing this, why are you promising to help me?

You should never have been here in the first place, now go to sleep; youve got to trust me, Im all youve got right now.

Well winter is certainly persistent this year and with only 14 more days until the official beginning to spring, it's still dropping that white stuff! I only hope when the warm up finally happens it will be gradual - I fear that an immediate thaw will drown us all!

I also must speak up in defense of those poor miniature snowmen that have been depicted on FaceBook with knives sticking into their little crystallized bodies and the words emblazoned "Die Winter Die" - Isn't it enough that when the weather does turn warmer they're going to melt anyway?

In the meanwhile I am getting great exercise from shoveling, so that is indeed a benefit. Now I am trying to figure out how to bottle up some of the cold air to save for summer and save on air conditioning.

Sending y'all warm thoughts!

No money for ransom ~ Weekend Writing Warriors / #8sunday / 03/01/15

The kidnapper seems more concerned with Deanna's welfare than one would expect.

...and now the eight:

“Just let me go,” she pleaded, “I swear I’ll forget what you look like.”
“Right,” he snorted, “you wouldn’t be in this mess if you were that kind of person. Do you have family?”
“No one has any money to pay a ransom if that’s what you want to know.”
He frowned, “I wasn’t suggesting ransom, I simply wanted to know if anyone was worried whether you were alive or dead. I’ll let them know you’re alright.”
He walked to the door, “I wouldn’t waste your time or energy screaming, this place is pretty isolated in the off season and the only ones who would hear you are my crew and trust me you don’t want their attention.” He sounded apologetic, “if you cooperate, we won’t hurt you.”

Exciting News! Bartlett's Rule is now in Audio

Can you hear it now? YOU BET!

Bartlett’s Rule by Chelle Cordero is now available as an AUDIOBOOK on Audible, iTunes, and on Amazon! Also in All Ebook Formats and Print Editions.

Bartlett's Rule shares the story of Lon and Paige's love affair; a romance filled with hardship, emotion, danger and triumph. Falling in love was never the challenge; being there for each other, knowing just what to say and making it work is the real test. Paige and Lon are real; they are human, they cry and they laugh. Paige has to learn to trust. Lon has to learn to be patient.

Review

A fantastic read -- a love story between two seemingly very different kinds of people. Between all the tribulations that get in the way of their romance, they ultimately triumph. The story is so well crafted and the characters evoke lots of emotion from the reader. The plot takes lots of twists and turns and underscores the severity of rape crimes and the lasting damage it inflicts upon its victims.
~Barbara Moroch

Bartlett’s Rule audiobook is narrated by Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard, professional voice actress, owner and producer at Gypsy Audio, residing in the Pacific Northwest. Final Sin was the first audiobook she produced for Chelle Cordero and Vanilla Heart Publishing, followed by Hostage Heart, and is now at work on Chelle’s upcoming paranormal suspense, Karma Visited. Gwendolyn’s range, professionalism, and extraordinary high quality production standards are just a few of the reasons we’re thrilled to be working with her on these projects.
