Hi! Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warrior round. Every week writers post 8 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we "hop" around and leave comments on each other's snippets. Whether our work is already published or in progress, the helpful comments help us become stronger writers on our next WIP. We welcome EVERYONE's comments.
Ryan and Deanna have kept up the pretense that she is (literally) his property in order to keep the rest of his crew away from her. Kidnapper aside, Deanna feels safe with Ryan and she's begun to worry what will happen to him if the robbers are caught. [note: "mamere" is what Deanna called her elderly Cajun grandmother who died during the hurricanes and flooding in Louisiana]
...and now the eight:
“You’re
nothing like those other men, why are you even involved with them?” Deanna knew
that his kindness to her was more than just an act. “You are different, you act
like them, but you aren’t. Who are you?”
Her
mamere used to call it vibrations and
Deanna got very different vibrations from Ryan than from his cohorts.
He
stared at her in silence, finally he looked away. “The less you know about me,
the better off you are. Don’t ask questions.”

"The less you know about me, the better off you are."
Now I'm more intrigued than ever!
typical man answer ... but like Pt, I'm intrigued as well. I love this story!
Is mamere a special term, or in a certain language?
I can understand she is curious but seriously the guy is keeping her hostage, hello Stockholm syndrome girl, get a grip on yourself, he is not a good guy, he just robbed a bank!
Because it's a romance, I know it will end well, but in real life when a man warns you off, you're wise to listen to him!
He knows just what to say to drive her nuts with curiosity, doesn't he?
I'm with Iris: Men! :)
I'm almost as curious as she is as to his identity. I love it when something captures my attention and makes me want to keep reading.
He is now completely irresistable. The Dark anti-hero is always far more intriguing than the out and out good guy. Thank you for sharing.
Cliffhanger alert and it's who he is-not just what his name is. SO tell already. Maybe next week? Or better yet, but the book. That's my motto.
Oh, that won't get her more interested at all. ;) Great snippet, Chelle.
OK Well that just makes me want to know more about him!
"Don't ask questions." Yeah, that will work. She's absolutely going to keep asking questions.
Love that you called it vibrations, great word choice. It'll be interesting to see how she responds to his statement. Great 8.
Ooh, that closing was awesome!!! Very eerie! I love it!!!
Now I'm wondering if he's an undercover cop or something - he seems to be a good guy in a very bad situation all right. Loved the mention of the 'vibrations'....cool. Great 8!
I want to believe that he's a good guy. I wonder if he's undercover or something...
Great intrigue, Chelle! :-)
Cryptic much! I'm betting I could guess his secret, but I won't ruin the story for myself. :)
He certainly likes to be mysterious! Hopefully she's right and he really is a nice guy under all that mystery. :)
Don't ask questions just makes you WANT to ask questions. Another great snippet
