The truth comes out ~ Weekend Writing Warriors / #8sunday / 08/02/15

Hi! Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warrior round. Every week writers post 8 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we "hop" around and leave comments on each other's snippets. Whether our work is already published or in progress, the helpful comments help us become stronger writers on our next WIP. We welcome EVERYONE's comments.

My entry this week is from Common Bond, Tangled Hearts. Layne Gillette’s world is turned upside down when a man she has never met shows up to lay claim as the father of her 6-year old son.

Layne just told Justin that she is married and that she left her husband the night her son was conceived.

(the following has been edited to fit)  ...and now the eight nine ten:

"Does he know about Dennis?"

Layne hugged herself tighter, "God, I hope not."

"That was almost... he did some quick mental calculations, seven years ago. Is that the Charlie you thought sent me?"

"Yes, his name is Charles Harris."

"Why did you leave him?"

"Charlie was demanding, he believed that he had rights and I didn't always agree. He said he only wanted me to make a baby for him, he was sterile."

"If things where so bad, why did you agree?

There were tears in her eyes, "I fought, I tried, Justin I was strapped to the table, I had no choice.

About Common Bond, Tangled Hearts

Layne Gillette’s world is turned upside down when a man she has never met shows up to lay claim as the father of her 6-year old son.
Justin, the victim of a fraternity prank, and Layne, the subject of a forced insemination, have produced a beautiful child that they are both willing to protect… at all costs.
The two parents realize they can love each other, but when Layne’s abusive “ex-husband” shows up, they are torn apart by danger, kidnapping and lies. Justin won’t give up until Layne is returned to him. Layne uses her newfound strength, courage and knowledge to defy Charlie’s ugliest demands.

I can't believe it's August already!

Did you know that (here in America) next Friday, August 7
is
Purple Heart Day?

"The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed, while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military. With its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, which took the form of a heart made of purple cloth, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members." (Wikipedia)

This medal is awarded to United States military personnel for "Being wounded or killed in any action against an enemy of the United States or as a result of an act of any such enemy or opposing armed forces" 2015 marks the third year of a National Purple Heart Day observance.

Many other countries have equivalent honors for their wounded war veterans, in every case the selfless sacrifices of military personnel, and in some cases civilians, are applauded.
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Good glory. Yeah, marital rape is a real thing, although that version is extreme. Great snippet, Chelle.

Sorry state of affairs for this young woman. Perhaps now her life will straighten out and she'll find happiness.

Wow, grim situation and I can't wait to read more. Very well done excerpt, highly intriguing! (Kinda heartbreaking too, inagoodway for a novel with a lot more story to come.)

Charlie was a but hole!!! I'm glad she's done with him!!! Sorry I'm late responding. EMD training this week wiped me out.

What a piece of crap her husband is/was. I hope he gets his... This adds great conflict to the story, Chelle.
