Hi! Welcome to another Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday round. Every week writers post 8-to-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we "hop" around and leave comments on each other's snippets. Whether our work is already published or in progress, the helpful comments help us become stronger writers on our next WIP. We welcome EVERYONE's comments.
I hope that you all enjoyed the snippets from Believing in Santa and took advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend freebie! (Thank you to those who have posted reviews!)
We're changing it up a little and I will share a few snippets from Stormy Weather, one of the short stories in The Many Faces of Chelle Cordero collection. Here are ten opening lines... just to set the scene.
The
sun felt like it was burning into her skin. Even SPF-25 didn’t stand up to the
wind burn.
It
was just too easy to be lazy and lie there on the towel. The wind was kicking
up and she felt grains of sand skitter across her skin every now and then. She
wasn’t alone, there were a few diehards still on the beach. Running feet kicked
up clumps of sand and finally annoyed her enough to sit up and dust herself
off.
“Surfers,”
she mumbled and shook her head. Storms always brought them out.
The
wind kicked up the surf and the waves swelled. Debbie felt compelled to watch
two figures riding a huge crest and cringed when she saw one tumble into the
crashing foam, his board flying in after him.

This is such a fun story. I can almost hear the sound of the surf rolling in. Very nice. :)
Wonderful imagery. I could visualize the surf and hear the waves.
Ah, makes me want to spend a few hours on a stormy beach, watching surfers. :-)
You really put me there on the beach with her, and the end left me eager to find out what happened to that surfer, annoying though he may be. ;-)

One thing i have to say - you set the scene in a way I felt the salt and heat on my own skin. Thank you for making me feel this midwinter :)
Basking in the warmth of your story LOL. I certainly felt like I was on the beach - great snippet!
Her SPF choice made me laugh. I wear stronger for every day sun exposure. But then, I am a bit Irish. :)
That last image--very scary. Even if things *could* be okay, they don't feel like they will be.
I love storms! (Oceans, not so much.) Can't wait to see where this is going.
You did a great job of setting the scene and then busted it wide open with the threat of danger.
So descriptive, loving it.
Love it as I'm sitting in the backyard enjoying the summer sun :-) can't wait to find out about the surfer ;-)
This sets the scene well. I love being by the ocean when a storm is coming.
Fantastic description! I really enjoyed it.
Nice atmosphere. I like her reaction to the surfer's fall.
Hmm, her lack of concern worries me.
I love storms too, but not from the beach.
Love the comment about the surfer, too, it adds to our appreciation of who Debbie is. Nicely Done Chelle!
Wonderful description, Chelle. I was at Wildwood NJ one time when the wind was blowing hard. My friend and I were soaking up the sun, and then the sand would hit us. Like little needles. Your scene brought that feeling back. Good job. :-)
